We would like to review so short and simple as we don’t want to reveal much about the film as it may act as a spoiler.
Let’s start off with the synopsis:
A domestic flight from Chennai to NewDelhi is hijacked by terrorists and due to emergency it lands at Tirupathi airport. Major Ravi (Nagarjuna) from National Security Guard is assigned for the rescue operation and a senior bureaucrat (Prakash Raj) is negotiating between Government and terrorists and gets to know that they want their leader Yousuf to be released. Ravi is wedged between the Government order and his personal instincts and how he deals with the situation isn’t just the storyline. But the story gets into the uttermost feeling of the 75 passengers held as hostages. With an unexpected twist coming through the way of intermission, it’s gonna be an unpredictable journey.
Radha Mohan’s screenplay needs a grand round of applause as he tries working out on different perspective. The emotions, humors that are generated with the flight is something that is out of blue in Kollywood as most of the filmmakers, who want to make such genre films would focus upon the protagonist’s power of rescuing the people. The characterizations are very well done and this must have taken really a long time for Radha Mohan. Nagarjuna might not have worked so many projects in Tamil Cinema, but his brilliance over choosing new and innovative scripts has worked wonders for him in filmdom for a long time.
Background score by Manisharma is worth appreciating, but it’s cinematographer K.V. Guhan stealing the show with his camera works.
The dialogues are done well and certain conversations grabs our attention.
At the same time, there are few erroneous traits that should have been avoided. The comedy inserted into situation is not compulsory, but it is somewhat done for the purpose of entertaining the frontbenchers.
‘Payanam’ is a movie that can be watched for a different experience. From the producers of ‘Azhagiya Theeye’, ‘Mozhi’ and ‘Abhiyum Naanum’, this one too proves to be a good quality film.
