Pathinaaru Review

Director D Sabapathy’s Pathinaaru (16), which was launched in October 2008, is finally released to the theatres. The title of the film itself hints that the movie is related to youth, who goes through love and frustration at that age. The movie stars Mirchi Shiva and Madhu Shalini in the leads. Story:
The movie starts off with the love story of Siva (Shiva) and Indu (Madhu Shalini), who are madly in love for each other. The whole of city knows about their love and it does not take much-time for Indu’s father to catch them red-handed. Like every father-mother, her parents also opposes it but their arguments leads to unveil another tale, which can be said the beginning of the real story. Her mother gives her a book titled Pathinaaru, which tells the story of a couple Ilavarasi and Gopalakrishnan.

Ilavarasi is from a rich family, who is loving a poor boy Gopi. She goes against all the odds to pursue her love. It is a love between a rich girl and a poor boy. Their flashback story brings a twist in original tale. Indu changes her mind after reading the story and decides sacrifice her love for her parents. What happens next should be seen on-screen.

Performance:
Shiva has done reasonably good job but he has not able to deliver his best in emotional scenes. Madhu Shalini has given wonderful performance and she steals the show as Ilavarasi. Abhishek is impeccable and has good expressions. In fact, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is the highlight of the film. Especially, his background score has blended well with the story. Arul Das’ cinematography is a treat to watch. All these credit should go to director D. Sabapathy for getting out the best of all the department. However, his screenplay is not gripping and the story is too predictable.

Verdict:
In a nutshell, Pathinaaru is a family entertainer and It can be watched once
