‘Uthamaputhiran’, another film from Dhanush-Jawahar combo, has come out as a family entertainer with interesting sequences and comedy in abundance.
Jawahar has once again delivered a perfectly light and feel-good entertainment. Dhanush playsSiva, a happy-go-lucky guy, hailing from a large family, who can go to any extent to help his friends. During one such act of help, he abducts bride from the marriage hall with his friends’ help to find out only later that they had ‘abducted’ the wrong girl. Pooja (Genelia), who was going through a forced and bitter marriage, doesn’t complain and feels happier.
Siva saves her from the clutches of her greedy relatives and takes her to his large family on some false pretext. Pooja’s bubbly character wins over everyone in the household. Trouble starts brewing when both Siva’s warring uncles (Chinna Muthu Gounder and Periya Muthu Goundar), who don’t see eye-to-eye on most issues want to make Pooja their daughter-in-law.
Siva then enacts a full fledged drama using ‘Emotional’ Ekambaram (Vivek), the accountant of both families, to deceive both families. His drama makes wonders among everyone and culminates in an emotional climax. All is well that ends well.
Dhanush gets a tailor made role once again and scores well. te boy is charm personified and his handling of comedy by underplaying is commendable. Dhanush adds deft, little touches to his role that make all the difference. The actor has matured over the years and it show. Genelia as Pooja looks cute and acts well. But she too gets a tailor made role that gives little challenge to her acting prowess.
Vivek has delivered a stunning performance. His comedy along with Dhanush enlivens the entire theatre. The ‘subconscious memory power’ episode is hilarious.
K. Bhagyaraj, Ambika, Sundarrajan, Ashish Vidyarthi, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajendran and Mayilsami have made their presence felt in a film that gives sufficient screen space for each character.
Uthamaputhiran Movie Review
Vijay Antony’s music is passable while Balasubramaniyan’s camera work is excellent.
On the flip side, the film is a bit lengthy and drags in the second half. The screenplay and story are almost predictable. The way the villain families change their minds is quite unbelievable.
Despite such flaws ‘Uthamaputhiran’ has come out as a perfect family entertainer.
